JN Tata Endowment for the Higher Education scholarship
Since its establishment by Jamsetjee Nusserwanjee Tata, the promoter of the Tata Group, in 1892, the 130-year-old J N Tata Endowment has awarded loan scholarships to more than 5,600 Indian students, drawn from all over India. The Endowment supports only overseas higher studies – Master’s, Ph.D. , and Post-doctoral fellowships, in any education stream. Based only on Merit, it seeks to reward, “the best and most gifted so as to make them of the greatest service to the country”.

    Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicants should be Indian citizens, not exceeding the age of 45 as of June 30, 2023.
  • Graduates from a recognized Indian University with a minimum of 60% marks in their undergraduate or post-graduate studies.
  • The undergraduate degree must be obtained from a recognized University in India to be eligible.
  • Candidates with degrees from non-recognized Indian universities are not eligible.
  • Candidates who were not selected in previous years or those who couldn't avail of the scholarship when selected earlier are eligible to reapply.
  • Candidates who missed applying at the beginning of their overseas studies can apply at the end of the 1st year or the beginning of the 2nd year, provided a minimum of 12 months remains in their studies.
  • Candidates in their final year or awaiting results can apply.
  • Applications can be submitted without admission/offer letters; however, candidates must update their status upon securing admission.
  • Candidates planning to pursue diplomas with an entry-level requirement of higher secondary education are ineligible.
  • Overseas endeavors such as seminars, conferences, training, workshops, and online courses are not covered.
  • Postgraduate and undergraduate studies in India are not eligible for the scholarship.
  • The course candidates are admitted to must be recognized as a Graduate Program.
  • J N Tata scholars who have fully repaid their existing loan scholarship amount are eligible to reapply.
  • This scholarship eligible courses are Bachelors,Masters, Ph.D., Post-doctoral fellowships in various fields.
