Tanya C Harper Memorial SAR Scholarship
Tanya C Harper Memorial SAR Scholarship
The Tanya C. Harper Memorial SAR Scholarship seeks to address a concerning disparity within the medical field: while Black Americans make up 13.4% of the US population, only 5% of physicians in the country are Black. This underrepresentation not only highlights systemic barriers but also underscores the urgent need to support and encourage Black students pursuing careers in medicine. Through this scholarship, we aim to honor the memory of Tanya C. Harper by providing financial assistance to Black high school seniors or undergraduate students who are passionate about pursuing a career in the medical field. We believe that by investing in the education of Black students, we can help cultivate a more diverse and inclusive healthcare workforce that better reflects the communities it serves.
