The GIRAF 20 - International Festival of Independent Animation, organized by the Quickdraw Animation Society (QAS), is currently open for submissions until August 1, 2024. The festival aims to showcase a diverse range of animation styles, genres, lengths, and mediums to its audience in Calgary, Canada. Selected films will be featured during GIRAF 20, and outstanding International and Canadian short films will be recognized with awards. The festival celebrates independent animation that pushes boundaries through innovative techniques, unique visions, and thought-provoking subject matter.

  • However, commercial animations, children's films, and music videos are not within the festival's scope.
  • GIRAF targets an adult audience and typically excludes commercials, explainers, and festival stingers.
  • GIRAF is an annual event held in November at the Globe Cinema in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
  • Since its inception in 1984, the Quickdraw Animation Society has been instrumental in fostering independent artists and promoting progressive artistic and community-based initiatives.
  • Importantly, there is no entry fee for submissions, making it accessible for animators from around the world to participate in this esteemed festival.
