    • Prizes Rules
  • The competition welcomes poets worldwide. Entries must be the entrant's original work in English and not translations of other poets.
  • Submitted poems must be unpublished, both in print and online, and must not have won prizes in other competitions. Poems should not exceed 80 lines, excluding titles or blank lines.
  • Entry is exclusively through Submittable. In case of accessibility requirements preventing online form access, contact the office at [email protected]. Postal entries are only accepted under special circumstances, agreed upon with Poetry London staff.
  • Current team members or trustees of Poetry London are ineligible to enter. However, contributors, former staff, and trustees are eligible.
  • Entrants may submit multiple poems, each accompanied by the appropriate entry fee. Subscribers enjoy a reduced fee of £5 per poem, while non-subscribers pay £10 per entry. Subscribing before entry can save costs, even for new subscribers.
  • Disqualification may occur for entries lacking the correct entry fee.
  • A limited number of free entries are available to writers from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds. Eligibility criteria and submission details are provided. Additionally, individuals facing financial difficulties or ineligible for listed benefits are encouraged to reach out.
  • Accepted file formats include .doc, .docx, or .pdf. Entries undergo anonymous judging; the poet's name must not appear on any portfolio page. English-language entries on any subject, style, or form are welcomed.
  • The deadline for submission is 23:59 on June 30, 2024. Winners will receive notification by the end of September 2024. Winning poems will feature in the Autumn 2024 issue of Poetry London and on its website.
  • Prize distribution will occur at the Autumn launch reading in London. Copyright remains with authors, though Poetry London reserves the right to publish winning poems in any format at any time.
  • Prizes may be adjusted or withheld if deemed necessary due to the quality or quantity of entries.
  • Avoid last-minute entries, as technical support near the deadline may be unavailable, and late submissions will not be accepted.
  • Entries undergo initial sifting by Poetry London editors, with the top 500 poems reviewed by Hannah Sullivan. In case of the judge's unavailability, an alternative of equivalent standing will be sought. The judge's decision is final, and feedback cannot be provided.
  • Entry into the competition implies acceptance of these rules.
