The Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition is an annual literary event organized by The Times in collaboration with Chicken House, a prominent publishing company in the UK. This competition aims to discover and promote outstanding children’s fiction written by emerging authors.

Eligibility Criteria
  • The competition is open to entrants aged 18 or over.
  • Entrants must not have commercially published any whole children’s novel previously.

  • Second Prize (Lime Pictures New Storyteller Award): The recipient of this award will secure a publishing contract with a royalty advance of £7,500.
  • This prize is specifically designed for a manuscript showing great potential for film and TV development.
    • Submission Criteria
  • Entrants are required to submit a completed full-length novel suitable for children/young adults aged between 7 and 18 years.
  • The novel should have a minimum of 30,000 words and a maximum of 80,000 words.
  • Originality, a fresh voice, and a diverse range of entries are highly encouraged.
  • Entries must be written in English.
  • Submissions must be the original work of the entrant and should not have been commercially published and distributed before (self-published works are allowed).
