Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence
The "Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence" (PURSE) scheme, initiated by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, invites online proposals for support. The scheme aims to strengthen the research and development (R&D) foundation of universities throughout the country. Overall, the PURSE scheme aims to empower universities to become hubs of cutting-edge research and scientific innovation. By investing in their R&D capabilities, universities can play a pivotal role in advancing knowledge creation, fostering innovation, and driving socio-economic progress in the country.

    Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicants must be Indian citizens to be eligible to apply.
  • This fellowship is exclusively open to all genders.
  • This fellowship is exclusively open to all categories.
  • The scheme is exclusively for the university sector.
  • UGC recognized Central Universities, State Funded Universities, Deemed Universities, and Private Universities are eligible to apply under the scheme.
  • The eligible university should not have received support under SAIF/SATHI or PURSE program of DST.
  • All other agency-based universities are excluded from the scope of PURSE support.
  • For Non-Government Grantee Institutes (Private Universities), the support would be shared on a 50:50 ratio, with DST bearing 50% and the management of the institute bearing the other 50% of the total sanctioned cost of the project.
  • For UGC Recognized State universities and Central Universities, DST's share would cover 100% of the total sanctioned cost of the project.
