Women Scientists Scheme-A (WOS-A) provides platform to women scientists and technologists for pursuing research in basic or applied sciences in frontier areas of science and engineering. The scheme plays pivotal role in gender mainstreaming as it not only prevents brain drain from S&T system but also train and retain women in the system. The scheme initially offers opportunity to work as bench-level scientists and ultimately open new avenues for permanent position in Science & Technology

Scientific Disciplines
The support available in 5 disciplines under WOS-A namely

Physical & Mathematical Sciences (PMS)

Chemical Sciences (CS)

Life Sciences (LS)

Earth & Atmospheric Sciences (EAS)

Engineering Technology (ET)

Eligibility

Candidates in regular employment are not eligible for WOS-A. However, women scientists who are availing any temporary positions in research or academics may apply in the scheme but they have to leave their earlier assignment if WOS-A project approved

Candidates who are registered in Ph.D and receiving any fellowship are not eligible to apply

The scheme is meant to encourage women in S&T domain, preferably those having a break in career and not having regular employment, to explore possibility of re-entry into the profession

Break in Career: Minimum 2 years’ break is required after Ph.D award

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Basic or Applied Sciences/MD or Equivalent Degree

Age:

The minimum age to apply is 27 years and maximum is 60 years. Women scientists, less than 27 years of age are not eligible
